Marcel Proust and The Unaesthetic Land : Brix Skwikz saves Brazilian Civilization from trash
a special happy b-day to me post!
from a letter by Marcel Proust:
“the true unaesthetic land is not that which art has not fertilized but that which, covered with masterpieces, does not know how to appreciate them, nor even preserve them and lets the Tintoretos erase them. if little by little under the rain when he doesn't completely repaint them, he systematically destroys his most beautiful palaces to sell them, at high prices, out of ambition or for nothing, because he ignores their value. The true unaesthetic land is not the virgin land that art inhabits only because of the desire to inhabit, but the dead land that art no longer inhabits, due to satiety, disinterest and misunderstanding.´´
as quoted by Yves Sandre in an article titled ´´for a day to day esthetic according to Proust´s corespondence´´, originally published in ´Proust the man, the writer, the works ´, a special edition of Europe Magazine celebrating his 100th anniversary, republished in a 1971 magazine called Brazilian Civilization I have ironically saved from the trash while roaming the streets of this town with an yearly income of 7 billion dollars from coffee exports, where niggers still kill themselves for dimes in the city limit slums near the plantations
brazilian civilization … now that would be a great idea …
my new book is ready to print! In Monkey Man- The Last Time I Saw Leo i was trying to redefine post-modern trangenderism by mixing Hal Foster´s Tarzan with Ub Iwerks´Mickey Mouse in Jungle Rhythm !
if at the peak of the bourgeois revolution a writer like Stendhal only wanted to have 10 readers, how many should i expect in these days of the cyber revolution? probably even fewer , right? but it´s not about quantity, it´s about quality, and you know what , i have the coolest readers ever , reactions so far have been great !
for reasons that will become clear to you i´m gonna withheld names without request .
Mr.# is probably the most dangerous mind to come out of america in the last decades, a writer whose voice moral majorities and corporate america have been incessantly trying to shut, so he doesn´t need anymore slack for supporting a freak like me.
here´s what our eisner award winner had to say:
´´That's some crazy shit, Brix.´´
Mr.* is a well respected member of an U.K. government agency dealing data.to see how far british intelligence goes , he´s been sent to have classes with David Lloyd and became an internationally acclaimed cartoonist , roaming the 5 continents without raising any suspicious. our real life 007 said:
´´Brix! This is so wonderful! You have a lovely clear line style and great attention to detail. Thank you so much for sharing.´´
to hear that from two guys that have made me laugh and cry with only two clusters from their comics made it all worthwhile ! thanx chums, you know who you are! i wish you all the best always !
i promise i will work even harder now,
to close this long post, another extract form Proust´s correpondence, from the same quoted article:
´´To think that purity of style has anything to do with the absence of errors is, in my opinion, an absolute misunderstanding of what style is.the absence of errors and a purely subordinate quality, there is nothing aesthetic about it.´´
i´ll be right back talking more about forms and style, miss it not!
Cheers!
